TOK: Political Art

In TOK class, the students were asked to upload a blog post about one of the following questions: "Do artists have a moral responsibility to act as a voice for individuals/communities to communicate with the wider world, or for groups/campaigns/ideologies to spread a message?" Or Alternatively, "Do artists actually have a moral responsibility to be objective and stay out of politics, religion and dogma in order that their art is accessible to everyone?" And one of the question needs to be answered along one of the Banksy's work (minimum 300)

Art, is often referred as 'diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory and the others for expressing the author's imaginative, technical skills,,,' According to the fact that the art has adversely many different forms, not all of the arts have specific messages since there are artworks that are created within no purpose, occasionally making people to assume the intention that the author did not intend.  The not-existing direction of artwork mostly implied by the people can perhaps cause the disadvantages for the artist. Accordingly, I tend to agree with the idea that the artists can be objective and stay out of controversial scenarios: If artists are given right to stay neutral for the various potentially bad/good notion of the artwork, they do not need to worry about their works to be 'judged'.

The image above, is an image of where people yearn that the sales do not want to be finished. The artist of this work did not specify the certain messages of the work and stayed complete neutral. Some people have assumed whether this artist created this piece of work with the just intention of humorous elements, or to criticize the people who want to buy only cheap products from the view of producers. But, no one knows the actual purpose of this work. As a matter of fact, the public judgement can sometimes be detrimental to the artist's reputation since there is a potential risk of the artist being exposed within the stereotypical thoughts of the people towards the artwork. It can be detailed that there can be situations where artist do have a certain message for the artwork, however, since the most influence that determines the 'potential' purpose of the artwork are public, the scenario where artist's intended message can be unrevealed by the strong contention of the others.
