History WOKs!!

Image
What I think 'history' is: The study of past human affair events / The chronicle record of past events that are characterized by certain things.   Which four of WOKs the history uses the most?: Language - We rely heavily on language to study and understand history as historical records are noted and described through language to keep for generations and generations. Memory - Memory is the also the one used the most because it gives history a flow and meaningful definition and knowledge that you just cannot get from most basic historical documents. By using  memory, you'll see how people have collected the history in their memory and would speak about them in different perspectives. Reason - By reasoning, people allow themselves to come up with decisions to act upon. In historical context, warfare and treaties, were essentially created via the process of reasoning. Faith - Religious records of history can provide us the traces what happened ...

Literature - Psychoanalytic Question and Answer - Black Cat [Edgar Allan Poe]

Image
Literature - Psychoanalytic Question and Answer - Black Cat [Edgar Allan Poe] Is it possible to relate a character’s patterns of adult behavior to early experiences in the family (as represented in the story)? What do these behavior patterns and family dynamics reveal? Summary: The narrator loved animals that he would do anything for them, however, harms his beloved wife and animals. Eventually, kills his wife for his hatred towards the unforgivable black cat, Pluto. An unnamed character, has loved the animals when he was young and married a woman who also loves animals like narrator. The narrator’s love for animals imply that the narrator didn’t have any conflicts in his early life with his family, which would have influenced him to rely upon the existence in animals than anyone else. His excessive affection towards the animals can be refuted since he “sometimes valued the animals more than his wife” and also depicted when he was suffering an alcoholism, h...

Adaptation of Annabel Lee.

Image
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf7aBCrfOQE I've chose this video adaptation because: The voice over fits the theme, which I could feel a kind of emotion that the narrator would have experienced when he in a kingdom by the sea with Annabel Lee. Because of the way he speaks is very calm and silent, the narrator seems to give up, rather than being angry. I believe that the background sound music and the voice over harmonizes together in order to create a calm, yet sorrowful.

Edgar Allan Poe - Biography

Hey guys! This is Ire. This is my first blog post since I uploaded my bio! :) Today in English Class, we were discussing evocative poem, "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe. Poe gained much of recognition by writing pieces such as “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Fall of the House of Usher”, which are considered as literary classics noways. Despite his much of recognition and literary achievements today, he lived a very poorly due to lack in finance relatively. Let's figure out why! Poe was born in Boston, 19th of January, 1809 and died in 7th of October, 1849. Age 30. Poe, didn’t really get to know his parents as his father left him at early age and his mother passed from tuberculosis (when he was three). In doing so, he goes to live with a successful merchant family, John and Frances Valentine Allan. Nevertheless, he had struggles in relationship with John since he preferred Poe to participate in family’s business albeit Poe wanted to excel in literature. This made John not...

Share my opinions on these two poems.

In our TOK class, we were get to discuss how these two poems (Walt Whitman: From Song of Myself [1855] and First stanza of The Man with a Blue Guitar by Wallace Stevens [1937]. While I was reading the first poem, I thought that the following poetry is evoking us the acceptance that we need to listen to the others. Specifically, Whitman implies that the individual must pay attention to all different experiences of the individuals and be "listen to all sides, and filter them from yourself". Whitman calls upon the importance in humanity, which is to experience the world with the open-minded conceptual behavior. I believe this is related to "faith / momory" in Ways of knowing as we have trust and understand each individual's experiences in order to explore the world. The second poem, Stevens metaphorically symbolizes the guitar, serves as an particular instrument for musicians to relate themes. When you look at the very beginning of the poem "Things as they...

Hi, my name is Ire Joung who lives in Abu Dhabi. To pronounce my first name: E-ray. That's how you pronounce correctly. I started to attend Raha International School since end of 2014 and I always loved to read a variety of literature in Korean and English. Of course, I don't read all the time :D. I'm not the kind of person who reads the book for entire day. Nowadays, my interests account for playing and listening to music! Please remember that my English cannot be perfect as I'm still learning how and why English works in different situations. :) Without further ado, I'll focus in introducing English literature! Excited? Meh. The posts that I will be uploading are going to be about English stories that entail diverse of themes and will contain my straightforward perspectives toward them. In doing so, the questions that you guys will be asking are always welcomed as I want to express my opinions about 'how you guys think about this one". And don't...
